With Melbourne weather being kind to us at Port Melbourne, it was a glorious start to our first Truffle Hunt Tour for 2016. So many clever pooches setting their alarm clocks to get up early and arrive in time for sniff and social play. Welcome back Monty, Gemimah, Millie, Toby, Molly, Morus and Ronnie – such old hands at this getting on Bella ‘thing’. Lovely to meet Ella, Pipi, Poppy, Nova and Yoko, you got the hang of the stairs in no time!
Off we rambled to Mill Park in Ballan for some paw stretching and a much needed coffee and of course chocolate truffle from Ballan Bakery – thanks Belinda for an awesome service. Love the Diet Coke shake up.
OK now for the serious part of the day -Truffling at Black Cat Truffles. A glass of sparkling and very insightful introduction to all things truffles was the pawfect way to kick off the truffle hunt. Bonnie and Jo our very talented dog carers, would like to say all pooches waited patiently while their Mums and Dads learnt about truffles, but the truth is they were just too excited about their truffle treasure hunt. With truffle buried in Whimpzee eatable toys, it was time to unleash (literally!!!) the ‘would be’ truffle dogs.
For those us who have lived in Melbourne for many years, we are used to just rugging up over Winter and getting on with it. For pooches, the wind and rain can be a bit scary, so no problem, Bella to the rescue! Just come and sleep on Bella while those hoomans have a nice lunch. With pats, cuddles and treats, this was definitely a great plan.
Thank you to the amazing team at the Farmers Arms Hotel -Creswick for what can only be described as a magnificent feast of truffle inspired dishes. From freshly baked bread with truffle butter all the way through to pumpkin pie with truffle ice cream. Oh Yeah!!!
As most guests will recall, we sent an email out before the tour, suggesting everyone bring their gumboots as things can get a bit muddy in these parts. It is obvious Bella – the dog welcoming bus – did not get that email!!! Poor Bella, she so desperately wanted to join in the fun. Naughty girl.
Congratulations to Poppy for winning a bottle of Toodle Sparkling from Armadale Cellars for the most correct Truffle Trivia answers. Well done to Gemimah for an incredibly cute photo and winning the Ella+Friends Woof book.
