19 July 2015 Truffle Hunt Tour

Truffles, Truffle and more Truffles, was the order of the day with the most amazing sunshine anyone could ask for.

There was some stiff competition onboard for the Truffle Treasure Hunt – Gemimah had been practising her sniffing skills and we welcomed for the first time Wanda and Tiger who we ex Australian Customs Dogs. We could sense early that there was going to be some puppies with a thing or two to prove.

After our morning tea, it was done to work – with our Truffle Trivia – the competition was not just for the pooches. We could madly see everyone scrambling for phones and searching for answers. Well done to Eleanor all correct!

We arrived at Soumah Winery greeted by still some fog on the ground but lifting very quickly to open up a magnificent view of vines and surrounding valley area. Stuart and Lani from Yarra Valley Truffles was ready and waiting to talk/woof all things truffles Very impressive hunting Lani.

First we needed to watch Lani – Yarra Valley Truffles professional truffle dog find our lunch. Good work Lani, we didn’t want to miss out on including truffles in our lunch.

Our pooches just couldn’t wait to get their little paws on the Whimzees stuffed with Hills Ideal Balance and of course truffles in our very own truffle treasure hunt. All that training must have paid off for Gemimah, because she found the first one.

Our returning guests, Millie and Toby, we just so excited when they found theirs and then decided to help everyone else find one. Cheeky Monkeys licking the top out of the treats. Tigga and Skull were a little more relaxed in watching the action, old hands at this Doggy Winery Tour stuff.

It was lovely to see Pearl and Archie join us for a day after coming to our Cider Tasting in St Kilda earlier in the year. You should check the photo of Pearl having her belly rubbed after Lilydale Lake – so very cute.

Coby’s Mum was certainly encouraging in finding the truffle however her real talent was in the photo stakes, taking home the Ella+Friends Woof6! book for the best photo of the day.

Mr Darcy – a Kelpie Cottage rescue baby – warmed everyone’s heart with his gorgeous loving nature and in true Kelpie style – ball obsessed! Mr Diesel who was taking a day off from being Chief Paw Officer, would have loved to say “Hi” to a fellow Kelpie Cottage furkid.

Great to meet you Napoleon, so glad you enjoyed your first Doggy Winery Tour – pretty fast at getting to those treats and so super chilled at lunch.

With all the excitement of the Truffle Treasure Hunt done for the day, it was time for a rest for the pooches and lunch for the hoomans in the Italian inspired restaurant at Soumah Winery.

Our last stop for the day was a local Yarra Valley Winery – which was the perfect spot to enjoy the sunshine on the grass and tasting their stunning wines – you have to try the Sparkling!

We hope to see Zoe from the Lilydale Leader with Dougall next time. Thanks for joining us.

Happy Truffling!
