16 March 2014 – Mornington Peninsula Doggy Winery Tour

A gentle breeze wandered over Port Melbourne as we gathered on the beach for ‘sniff time’. No one was quite sure what the weather was going to do, we just hoped it would be kind to us. Another exciting adventure with 16 gorgeous pooches and their Mum’s and Dad’s for a day on the Mornington Peninsula.

Gus entertained us with his narrative of the trip down the freeway, telling us all the sights we should keep an eye out for. Zac and Diesel got their ‘herding’ skill practice on the lawn at Willow Creek while the rest of us enjoyed wine and olive oil tasting. Raffy met the other ‘Westies’, Oscar, Pepper and Gigi. Both Baileys (male and female) were getting very excited at being able to roam around the grassed area.

Thomas from Willow Creek was ever so patient at sharing the virtues of the wines with our guests who happily listened, learned and played with the dogs. It was great to see Sian from Ocean Blue Coastal Retreats come and say hello, kindly donating an awesome prize of 2 nights accommodations at the Sandpiper Cottage for the silent auction for Dogs For Kids With Disabilities.

Flinders beach put on its normal show of wonderful scenery with the ankle deep seaweed giving our 2 legged thighs a work out. Lunch for this trip was at Tuck’s Ridge and for most of the pooches a sleep was in order, while we sipped on wine and relaxed over lunch. Portia was very content to lounge around near the tables and keep an eye on the 2 legged action.

While Parlee had taken a special liking to Diesel and very much wanted to be up close and personal, cheeky girl!. After lunch we had short walk (on the wrong side of the road, sorry about that guys, I thought the path went the whole way, next time, we cross the road!!) from Red Hill Consolidated School to Mock Red Hill, for cider and cheese tasting.

Sheryn and Neville Mock were so excited to have our group relax in their cider lounge and courtyard, thanks for making us feel so welcome! With some very exhausted pooches, in particular Dudley, Kobe and Lucy, who managed to just get on the bus and then nap all the way home. And as for the rain, it started 10 minutes after we started our trip home. Thank you to everyone for being a part of this wonderful day, cheers from Diesel, Kerry and Robyne.
